Hakoda was surprised when he heard Rebecca vow to help protect the village, but he smiled when it sunk in. “Thank you. Thank you so much.” The other three children came in with Kya, whose eyes were wide with concern when she saw light reflecting off of Zuko teary cheeks.
Becca smiled weakly. ”It’s the least I can do,” she said seriously. ”Besides, these ‘Youkai’ must have brought me here for a reason. My sight has got to be the reason,” she answered.
Azula hurried over to Zuko when she saw he was crying, completely missing the drawing in favour of paying attention to her brother and reaching up to wipe at his eyes for him. ”Zuzu?” she asked worriedly, looking up at him with an expression of pure concern and perfect trust.
“I’m fine … some snow got on my face and I melted it off, that’s all.” His voice sounded like a eight year old boy trying to sound tough, because he was.
Azula nodded her head. Though she could tell he was lying, she knew he’d get mad if she poked at him too much about it. ”Okay Zuzu,” she murmured, and headed over to Hakoda to try to climb up his side.
Becca chuckled softly, watching everyone interact. ”What was your name, sweetie? Azula? You remind me a lot of me. I have a brother, too, and I love him very much. But he tries to be tough all the time instead of letting me take care of him, too.”
Azula just pressed her face into Hakoda’s arm, being shy right now, so Becca turned to Kya and nodded to her in greeting.

“But she’s firebending, and Azula’s the only girl who can firebend! Who are you!? Why is she hurting Lu Ten?” With the last question, the flames roared higher, getting dangerously close to Rebecca’s face; Hakoda shielded himself from the heat and pulled Zuko in tight.
“Zuko, this is Rebecca. I found her out a ways from the village; she was dressed very strangely; way to light to be out there. She doesn’t have a way home.” Zuko was comforted a bit by Hakoda, and eased a bit when he heard about her problem; he knew what that was like.
Becca screamed the moment the flames kicked up, jumping backwards and wrapping her arms around herself. She stayed on the floor, curled up in a little ball, crying to herself. This world…was going to take some getting used to, and firebenders were probably going to be the hardest part about it.
Zuko’s tightly shut eyes widened when he realized what he did, and ran over to the strange girl for an apology hug. Hakoda recalled the terrible burns on her skin, and cringed as he imagined what would happen next; it was too late to try and call him off.
Fortunately, Becca wasn’t the type to lash out in fear, especially not against a sweet little boy that reminded her of Alex, no matter how slightly. Rather than strike him, Becca took him up on that unspoken offer of a hug, wrapping him in her arms and squeezing probably more tight than was comfortable. She cried into his shoulder, though she was trying desperately to calm down and not make a scene.
Hakoda sighed. “Zuko, this girl can see into the future. She draws what she sees. It looks like your cousin will come during the raids a few years from now.”
Slowly, Becca forced herself to let go of the boy, shifting to wrap her arms around herself instead. She wasn’t sobbing any more, at least. ”I’m…here to help protect this village,” she promised quietly. ”To warn when the raids are coming, and to help make sure disasters can’t happen. That’s…what my sight is for.”
